The Turkish newspaper Zaman reports today that a cell of the Quds Unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard is planning to attack U.S. embassy in Ankara and other targets across the country.
Turkey’s intelligence service claims the Iranians plan to stay at a five-star hotel and break into the U.S. Embassy or one of its consulates. In addition to the Quds Unit, the report states that the Lebanese group Hezbollah will participate in the attacks.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports that according to Turkish intelligence, Iran is attempting to support the operations of “small, illegal Turkish organizations” following Turkey’s decision to establish a NATO radar installation on its territory, and due to Ankara’s condemnation of the al-Assad regime in Syria.
Last November it was reported that Turkey is hosting the Free Syria Army (FSA) on its territory. The FSA is a paramilitary group opposed to the al-Assad regime. According to Milliyet, a major Turkish newspaper, France sent its military training forces to Turkey and Lebanon last year to train the FSA which is supported by the British intelligence asset the Muslim Brotherhood and the National Transitional Council in Libya, an al-Qaeda front.
The establishment of the NATO radar system in Turkey has created tension between Turkey and Iran. Prior to the NATO move, relations between the two countries was generally peaceful. Iran claimed the radar system was a move by the United States to protect Israel from a counter-attack should Iran be attacked under the pretense of taking out its nuclear program.
In October of 2011, the U.S. Justice Department claimed Iran was behind a plot of assassinate the Saudi ambassador in the United States. The alleged perpetrator was an incompetent Iranian national who supposedly plotted with Iran’s Quds Force to kill ambassador Adel al-Jubeir. The sensationalized story was immediately questioned and dismissed as ludicrous by terror and Iranian experts.
Iran later said the plot was hatched by the People’s Mujahideen of Iran (MEK), a CIA created group that has carried out terrorist attacks inside Iran.

Armed gangs blow up Syrian oil pipeline

Unknown armed groups have blown up a pipeline carrying oil from eastern Syria to a refinery in the western city of Homs, Press TV reports.

On Thursday, Syrian sources told Press TV that the attack was carried out by armed gangs that operate in and around the city.
Homs has been the major scene of recent unrest in Syria that originated in mid-March.
The Syrian government blames “outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
Confessions by a number of Syrian rebels about foreign-sponsored plans to carry out armed operations and killing ordinary people as well as security forces prove that recent developments in the country are part of an attempt to incite a revolt in the strategic country neighboring the Israeli regime, aiming to overthrow the current government and replace it with a US-backed regime.
However, a resolution adopted by the Arab League against Syria has enhanced the unity of Syrian people. Figures show that during the past weeks, nearly 12 million people have demonstrated in support of President Bashar al-Assad.
On November 27, the Arab League approved unprecedented sanctions against Syria, including a freeze on assets possessed by the Syrian government and an embargo on investments for projects in the country.
The Syrian government has also accused the Arab League of seeking to “internationalize” the situation in the country.
The Arab League action against Syria has raised major controversies in the Arab world, as the organization is mostly made up of notoriously authoritarian regimes that are heavily under the influence of the US and major Western European governments, despite their widely publicized claims of supporting democracy and human rights.

Iran says could target Turkey missile shield

Iran could target installations in Turkey that are part of a planned NATO missile shield in any future conflict, a senior military official said on Saturday, upping the rhetoric against its neighbor with whom relations have soured in recent months.
“We are ready to attack NATO’s missile shield in Turkey if we face a threat and then we will follow other aims,” the semi-official Mehr news agency quoted Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the Revolutionary Guards’ aerospace division, as saying.
Tehran has made clear its displeasure at Turkey’s agreement in September to deploy a NATO missile early warning system which it sees as a U.S. ploy to protect Israel from any counter-attack should the Jewish state target Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Once warm relations between Iran and Turkey have been strained this year due to the missile shield and Ankara’s outspoken criticism of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s violent crackdown on popular unrest.

Ranska: Syyrian oppositiosta maan virallinen edustaja

Ranska aikoo esittää kansainväliselle yhteisölle, että Syyrian opposition muodostamasta Kansallisesta neuvostosta tulisi maan virallinen edustaja presidentti al-Assadin hallinnon sijaan. Ranska toivoo myös, että Syyriaan perustetaan niin sanottuja humanitaarisia käytäviä, jotta siviilit pääsevät pakoon väkivaltaisuuksia.

Ranskan ulkoministeri Alain Juppé on neuvotellut Syyrian kansallisen neuvoston johtajan Burhan Ghaliounin kanssa Pariisissa.
Neuvottelun jälkeen Juppé totesi neuvoston voivan muodostua elimeksi, joka edustaisi Syyriaa ulkomaisissa yhteyksissä, sillä presidentti Bashar al-Assadin hallinto on menettänyt luottamuksensa. Ranska hakee nyt Syyrian kansalliselle neuvostolle kansainvälistä hyväksyntää.
Juppé aikoo myös esittää EU:n johdolle, että ne alkaisivat työskennellä sen hyväksi, että Syyriaan perustettaisiin siviilien suojaksi humanitaarisia käytäviä. Viime viikkoina liikkuneiden huhujen mukaan sotilasliitto Nato ja Turkki valmistelisivat Syyriaan lentokieltoalueita samaan tapaan, kuin myös Libyaan perustettiin. Huhut on kiistetty.
Burhan Ghalioun kertoi neuvoston toimivan yhdessä opposition muodostaman aseellisen yksikön, Syyrian vapaan armeijan kanssa. Asevoimaa on kuitenkin tarkoitus käyttää vain siviilien puolustamiseen, ei hyökkäystoimiin.
EU:n ulkopoliitikkaa johtavan Catherine Ashtonin mukaan EU on valmis yhteistyöhön Syyrian kansallisneuvoston ja muiden oppositioryhmien kanssa. Ashtonin edustaja kuitenkin painotti, että opposition on sitouduttava rauhanomaisiin ratkaisuihin.

Turkin pääministeri vaati Syyrian al-Assadin eroa

Turkin pääministeri Recep Tayyip Erdogan haukkui maanantaina entistä liittolaistaan Syyrian presidenttiä Bashar al-Assadia pelkuriksi ja vaati tätä eroamaan.

- Bashar al-Assad sanoo taistelevansa kuolemaan asti. Taisteleminen omaa kansaa vastaan - ei ole sankaruutta vaan pelkuruutta, Erdogan sanoi parlamentissa pitämässään puheessa.
Hänen mukaansa al-Assadin pitäisi ottaa oppia Libyan entisen johtajan Muammar Gaddafin virheistä. Gaddafi sai surmansa kapinallisten käsissä lokakuussa.
- Jotta veri ei enää vuotaisi ja kansa, maa ja koko alue saisivat jälleen rauhan, eroa vihdoinkin, Erdogan vaati.
Naapurimaat ovat painostaneet al-Assadia eroamaan, koska Syyria on yrittänyt tukahduttaa verisesti maan johtoa vastustavat mielenosoitukset. YK:n mukaan kahdeksan kuukautta jatkuneen kansannousun aikana on kuollut jo 3 500 ihmistä.

Turkki uhkaa katkaista Syyrialta sähköt

Syyrian kansannousun verinen tukahduttaminen on hermostuttanut sen suurimman kauppakumppanin Turkin.

Turkin energiaministeriö harkitsee sähkötoimitusten keskeyttämistä Syyriaan, jos linja ei muutu.
Turkki on myös sallinut Syyrian tärkeimpien oppositioryhmien kokoontumisen Turkissa ja antanut turvapaikan Syyrian armeijasta loikanneille sotilaille.
Yli 70 ihmistä sai eilen surmansa yhteenotoissa hallituksen kannattajien ja vastustajien välillä.
Britanniassa toimivan, Syyrian ihmisoikeuksia tarkkailevan järjestön mukaan päivä oli yksi verisimmistä kuukausia jatkuneiden levottomuuksien aikana.
Levottomuudet olivat pahimpia maan eteläosassa. Kuolleiden joukossa oli siviilien ohella myös yli 30 sotilasta. Järjestön mukaan nämä ilmeisesti kuolivat taisteluissa armeijasta loikanneiden entisten sotilaiden kanssa. YK arvioi yli 3 500 ihmisen saaneen surmansa Syyriassa sitten maaliskuun.

Ministeri: Turkin pääkaupungin räjähdys terroria, kolme kuoli

Turkin pääkaupungissa Ankarassa tiistaina aamupäivällä tapahtuneessa räjähdyksessä kuoli kolme ihmistä. Haavoittuneita oli toistakymmentä.
Tiedot keskustassa tapahtuneesta räjähdyksessä olivat pitkään epäselviä. Turkkilainen televisiokanava ehätti jo kertoa, ettei kukaan olisi kuollut.
- Kolme kansalaista kuoli ja 15 haavoittui. Heistä viisi on kriittisessä tilassa. On erittäin todennäköistä, että kyseessä oli terrori-isku, sanoi sisäministeri Idris Naim Sahin televisiossa.
Kurdisissit ovat toistuvasti tehneet iskuja maan suuriin kaupunkeihin. Turkin viranomaiset uhkasivat viime viikolla aloittaa hyökkäyksen kurdisissien tukikohtiin Pohjois-Irakissa.

Turkey blocks Israel's NATO request

Amid worsening relations between Tel Aviv and Ankara, Turkey has blocked a bid by Israeli officials to open an office at NATO headquarters.

“Israel recently made an attempt to open an office at NATO in Brussels. We said we would veto this attempt and the issue was not even put on the agenda,” Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Sunday.

A Turkish Foreign Ministry official told the Hurriyet newspaper that Israel attempted to have its request approved earlier this month, after Ankara downgraded ties with Tel Aviv over its refusal to apologize for a raid on an aid ship bound to the Gaza Strip in 2010.

The official added that the issue could not even make its way onto NATO's agenda after Turkey threatened to use its veto.

The 2010 attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, which was sailing in international waters on a mission to break Tel Aviv's siege of the Gaza Strip, left nine Turkish activists dead and dozens of others wounded.

Israel has refused to apologize for the bloodshed, prompting Ankara to expel the Israeli ambassador and cut all bilateral military ties with Israel.

Meanwhile, Turkey has vowed to take action at the International Court of Justice in the Hague to challenge Tel Aviv's four-year siege of Gaza.

The blockade prevents the flow of food, medicine, and other basic supplies into the impoverished coastal territory.
